Chapter I: Out the Window
Lines and Squares

Whenever I walk in a London street,
I’m ever so careful to watch my feet;
And I keep in the squares,
And the masses of bears,
Who wait at the corners all ready to eat
The sillies who tread on the lines of the street.
[They] go back to their lairs,
And I say to them, “Bears,
Just look how I’m walking in all the squares!”

And the little bears growl to each other, “He’s mine,
As soon as he’s silly and steps on a line.”
And some of the bigger bears try to pretend
That they came round the corner to look for a friend;
And they try to pretend that nobody cares
Whether you walk on the lines or [the] squares.
But only the sillies believe their talk;
It’s ever so portant how you walk.
And it’s ever so jolly to call out, “Bears,
Just watch me walking in all the squares!”
Pretty

I’ve been feelin’ real strange,
Ever since I heard her sayin’ my name
The world is such a big place,
How’d I find an angel
Right in front of my face?
When I went
To see that girl,
Man, I swear;
She changed my world
I’ve been feelin’ real strange,
Standin’ in the presence
Of the prettiest frame
La, la
La, la la la
La la la la la, la
Somehow,
You seem like you’re interested
In what I might be;
I try
To think of somethin’ smart to say,
But I’ve got two left feet;
When I went
To see that girl,
Man, I swear;
She changed my world
I’ve been feelin’ real strange,
Standin’ in the presence
Of the prettiest frame
La, la
La, la la la
La la la la la, la
La, la
La, la la la
La la la la la, la
La, la
Awful Fun

Hold my tongue,
Or let it free,
I’ll never understand
How to turn my head,
And let it be,
Just a part of a bigger plan
The sun will smile,
And the moon will cry;
You can’t stop it spinnin’ on.
But the hurt won’t last,
And once it’s gone,
You’ll see it's awful fun
To be born at all.
If I were a bird on high,
I bet all the winds would help me fly;
And if I were a childhood dream,
I bet all the world would follow me;
And every time
That I tripped up,
You’d help me to my knees;
And that’s all I’d need
To make it fun to be born
Grab my soul,
And shake it free,
Of things that can weigh it down
Pockets full
Of disappointing
Twists, and turns, and frowns
The sun will smile,
And the moon will cry;
You can’t stop it spinnin’ on.
But the hurt won’t last,
And once it’s gone,
You’ll see it's awful fun
To be born at all.
If I were a bird on high,
I bet all the winds would help me fly;
And if I were a childhood dream,
I bet all the world would follow me;
And every time
That I tripped up,
You’d help me to my knees;
And that’s all I’d need
To make it fun to be born at all.
Wonder

If I fall down,
And I get hurt,
Then I’m alive;
There is beauty all around me now.
If I look out
And see the planets passing by,
I am headed where I should be now.
Every time that I look up,
I see something amazing;
And even when I close my eyes,
The world is always changing;
The beasts that roam,
The plants that grow,
The clouds of every shape and size;
Reminding me to open up my mind

If I get caught inside my web
Of little lies,
That’s a lesson that I need right now.
I see a man who did me wrong
Caught in the rain;
Should I let him in to wait it out?

Every time that I look up,
I see something amazing;
And even when I close my eyes,
The world is always changing;
The beasts that roam,
The plants that grow,
The clouds of every shape and size;
Reminding me to open up my mind…
Emory's World

[A wondrous place of pitfalls and possibilities.]

Out the Window

I have gone,
Just beyond,
As far as the eye can see;
Where everything is possible,
And everybody’s free.
It’s not hard to get there,
It’s not difficult to find;
Just close your eyes
And listen for
The subtle winds of time;
Blowing troubles of this world
Out the window,
Whispering that everything’s
Gonna be alright;
Blowing troubles of this world
Out the window,
Into the heavens
Shining beautiful tonight.

I have left it all behind,
I will not be tied down
To gold or shame,
Or jewels or fame,
Or anybody’s crown.
God bless the children
Who wait here next in line;
They close their eyes
And listen for
The subtle winds of time;
Blowing troubles of this world
Out the window,
Whispering that everything’s
Gonna be alright;
Blowing troubles of this world
Out the window,
Into the heavens
Shining beautiful tonight;
Into the heavens,
Shining beautiful tonight.
You, Me

Four walls in a square,
Ten hands in my hair,
Breathe in, and you’ll see;
There’s a you, there’s a me.
Two lights on a bridge,
Three nights out on the ridge,
Take a breath, and you’ll see;
Heaven’s you, heaven’s me.

Who taught the children
There are things more important than love?
When do the children
Start to feel like it’s never enough?
I want to see the world like it’s new,
Every day;
I want to seek the truth,
If it hurts,
That’s okay;
That’s okay.

Ten rings in a tree,
Four winds in the leaves,
Breathe in, and you’ll see;
It’s a wonder to be.
Three clouds in the sky,
Two years asking why,
Take a breath, and you’ll see;
They were here,
Now they’re free.

Who taught the children
There are things more important than love?
When do the children
Start to feel like it’s never enough?
I want to see the world like it’s new,
Every day;
I want to seek the truth,
If it hurts,
That’s okay;
That’s okay.
Human

I will never be
Anything better than human;
I can never be
Anything other than human;
And that’s the way it has to be,
That’s the way it has to be.
But wipe all those tears,
What do you cry for?
Heaven’s never been closer,
So wipe all those tears,
What do you cry for?
Heaven’s never been closer
Than it is right now.
I was made to see,
Something that’s better than human;
I keep falling short,
Of everything I could be,
While I’m human;
But that’s the way it has to be,
That’s the way it has to be.
So wipe all those tears,
What do you cry for?
Heaven’s never been closer,
So wipe all those tears,
What do you cry for?
Heaven’s never been closer
Than it is right now.
One Small Part

Strap me in,
I’m falling out,
Of love again,
With a thousand miles to drop, away,
For a heavy landing.
A line of angels on the trees,
I don’t know if they’re there for me
Or not;
I hope they find what they’re looking for.
Say goodbye to the perch I knew,
It was nice up there,
But I guess we’re through,
And the times have always changed;
I’m just one small part of everything.
Say goodbye to the nest I flew,
Where I grew up fast, and I had no clue
That the times have always changed;
I’m just one small part of everything.
Stardust from my time in space,
The mist gets cold
As the clouds roll down my face;
I hope that you’re happy somewhere.
I thought I made a leap of faith,
What a foolish way to fall from grace;
Come on,
I can find a happy ending somewhere…
Say goodbye to the perch I knew,
It was nice up there,
But I guess we’re through;
And the times have always changed,
I’m just one small part of everything.
Say goodbye to the nest I flew,
Where I grew up fast, and I had no clue
That the times have always changed;
I’m just one small part of everything.
